Scaelife makes software for long-term care facilities. The brief was to improve quality of life for elderly residents, with an app for people with little comfort around technology.
what research changed
We started with research, before drawing any screen. It showed that the people opening the app dozens of times a day were nurses and caregivers on shift. Their constraint was time. Documentation competed with medication rounds, incidents and family conversations, got pushed to the end of the shift and came out incomplete.
who the product is for
An app for an eighty-year-old asks for large type, contrast and a calm pace. An app for someone with ninety seconds between tasks asks for few taps between an observation and a saved record. We built the second one.

what we delivered
The app is organised around each resident's record, the way caregivers organise their own work. It covers health tracking, messaging, scheduling and records, with inventory and finance for administrators. Large touch targets, flat navigation and voice input allow one-handed use. We also delivered the website and blog. Testing with working caregivers moved the navigation twice before build.

why research came first
The brief carried an assumption about who the user was, and it pointed at the wrong person. Built as written, it would have produced an accessible app that caregivers had no time to open. Squad Canvas, our discovery phase, exists to settle that question before the first screen.
